Evolving EUCs, Bigger and Faster

By Scott Bradford · March 21, 2023

EUCs, (Electric Unicycles) are an amazing new form of clean energy vehicle recreation. This form factor wouldn't be feasible without the advancements of EV technology that allows for instant acceleration and direction change that doesn't need mechanical clutches or gear changes required by internal combustion engines.

Electrek.co is covering the story of the newest Challenger model of the Inmotion V13.

While this high-power variant weighs 110 lbs and caters to the performance enthusiast, most EUCs are known for being the most compact and convenient form of urban mobility as you can easily bring them indoors at your destination like a piece of rolling luggage. Larger EUCs like this one are a bit more challenging if you need to carry it up or down a flight of stairs or tuck it under a desk at work, but they are still more portable than a moped or electric scooter.

As battery technology continues to improve, it's easy to imagine that future variants of the EUC may weigh half as much and provide similar or better performance and range. Of particular interest to us at CEVRA is the charging standard that many EUCs seem to have adopted, a two-port charging system. a 'regular' charger can provide a few amps of power (varies by model, of course). Still, many models allow you to plug in two chargers simultaneously to increase the speed at which you can top off your battery for your next adventure or commute. This wheel is a 126-volt system; most now operate between 72 and 100 volts. Would it be practical to provide public DC charging stations for personal mobility vehicles? I would like to see a PEV station at popular destinations that might allow you to comfortably run around with a battery pack half as big (and half as heavy).

The folks over at Electrek, one of my favorite daily reads for electric vehicle news, go into more insightful detail on the fantastic new Inmotion V13!
