Vehicle Recreation Plus Recreation Vehicles is a Good Thing!
By Scott Bradford · February 26, 2023

We ran across an article at rvtravel.com that details the ups and downs of 'motorized toys' in the RV park campground setting.
Since many manufacturers began to make what's known as RV toy haulers, more and more people are bringing along an assortment of smaller personal vehicles to have when engaging in their RV experience.
Some of the upsides mentioned are to help with mobility issues or of a more practical nature helping with chores or mobility issues:
- Aid for mobility issues. “I don’t think my wife and I would RV as much without our golf cart,” John admitted. “She needs it to get around because of her mobility issues.”
- Helps with chores. “I don’t have any trouble walking,” Doris added. “But I take the golf cart to get the laundry to and from the campground’s laundromat. It’s just quicker.”
It was also pointed out that some campgrounds are large and riding electric bikes makes it easier to get around and participate in activities that may be available at the campground rec rooms.
Younger family travelers with children also find that having these motorized toys for the kids makes the RV camping adventure a more attractive proposition. They would have a hard time convincing the kids to come along otherwise.
Using motorized toys seems to be a welcome addition to the RV camping experience, but not without a few downsides. The downsides mentioned primarily focused on the safe operation and noise levels. While it seems obvious to most that blasting around on a noisy ATV may annoy some people trying to enjoy a campsite, some are oblivious and can cause annoyance.
There also needs to be a respectful and safe operation. It's NOT NICE to go speeding past others at a close distance and sometimes not being safe about riding can have tragic results for the riders and others around them.
With the advent of CLEAN ENERGY VEHICLE RECREATION, most electric-powered toys are MUCH QUIETER, and this easily helps satisfy those who seek a more peaceful sound environment while camping. The availability of new types of clean energy powered 'motorized toys,' scooters, Electric Unicycles, ESkateboards, and EBikes has exploded in the past few years and added new ways to enjoy vehicle recreation while having less negative impact on your neighbors and environment!
We at CEVRA believe that setting sensible standards for conduct that are easily understood and observed by all will help new riders to be more easily accepted into new communities. Some places would outright ban personal electric ride-on vehicles like scooters or EUCs for lack of a clear way to manage their responsible use. We hope to provide a management resource allowing people to enjoy their toys respectfully.
If you find yourself at an RV Campground enjoying your motorized toys, please observe those around you and respect their personal space by moving at a pace that won't intimidate other slower foot or pedestrian traffic.
